Feminist Art
Women artists revelled in feminine experience, exploring vaginal imagery and menstrual blood, posing naked as goddess figures and defiantly using media such as embroidery that had been considered ‘women’s work’ has brought about, an interesting look at the work and nature the artist have had to endure up until this present day. As my own class at college is 20 females + and 2 men.
Ghada Amer - contemporary artist
Later feminist artists rejected this approach and attempted to reveal the origins of our ideas of femininity and womanhood. They pursued the idea of femininity as a masquerade – a set of poses adopted by women to conform to social expectations of womanhood The role of artist seems to have flipped. Social changes had had a massive impact on the world of feminism too.
Mary Kelly - is an American conceptual artist, feminist, educator, and writer. She came to britian to study conceptual art and at the time arrived when they began many protests against the war, soon after that was the beginning of the women rights movements. Social changes had begun and what was a typical family began to changes and be rethought-out.
No women in government, or teaching etc gave the feeling that the images of war (American against war and testing) in the media do filter in to the everyday lives of the people. The women for peace was an activist movement that began around the 1960's. For Kelly, she wanted to produce work that had a female quality but with regards to tough topics. The field of feminism informed by the field of psychoanalysis has changed in the years to come. The rolls of men and women are so different these days. Many men do take on the role of house husband, or childcare roles etc. The aim of psychoanalysis therapy is to release repressed emotions and experiences, i.e., make the unconscious conscious. This theory is again something that begs questions and has my mind in wonder. Again everything seems connected.
Post Partum Work
Kelly intricately charts her relationship with her son, and her changing role as a mother by writing on artifacts associated with child care: baby clothes, his drawings, items he collects, and his first efforts at writing. In addition, there are detailed analytical texts that exist in parallel to the objects.

HANNAH WILKE
The artist was among the first to explore “essentialist art”, turning the female experience to the image of the vagina, which she rendered in folded clay, hanging latex, kneaded erasers, chewed bubble gum, or rolled-up laundry lint and stuck to photographs, postcards, and her body by the dozens.
Photographer, performance artist and sculptor Wilke had encountered judgement throughout her life was that she was too beautiful. Because the conventionally stunning artist incorporated her own body into her work, often nude, she was constantly accused of being narcissistic and flaunting her appearance.
“People give me this bullshit of, ‘What would you have done if you weren’t so gorgeous?’” Wilke once noted. “What difference does it make? [...] Gorgeous people die as do the stereotypical ‘ugly.’ Everybody dies.” When Wilke herself was diagnosed with cancer, she documented her degenerating body in the series “Intra-Venus,” at which point many of her detractors accepted the undeniable fact that Wilke was making challenging and critical artwork all along.

Guerrilla Girls
Guerrilla Girls is an anonymous group of feminist, female artists devoted to fighting sexism and racism within the art world. The group formed in New York City in 1985 with the mission of bringing gender and racial inequality into focus within the greater arts community.
