painting to a theme... continued

The filler dry I decided to work on my painting to a theme project again. I feel like as I swap and change my topics so often I sometimes lose the piece...the project. Its hard to go back to the place in my head I felt at the time. Like the seasons my thoughts feelings and work are changing all the time.

Firstly I started to rub some of the mud I'd collected that very day... Having the textures, smell and medium, I enjoyed the rubbing and feeling of the action. My senses began to come alive.  The texture of the filler and the paint was another interesting mix... Once I brushed it on I took a rag and rubbed the paint around, lifting some of the paint off as I went..

I was thinking of the shadows and darker area at the time. The brown and green seemed fitting with regards to the colour of nature.... Pure and human with a mix of us all living and breathing connecting as one....

Thinking of other textures I sharpen a pencil and the dust that was left behind I thought would be great to highlight areas or use like that of the same thing of glitter on a homemade... . Pva and glitter brought back a childlike innocence.. throwing filler onto wet paint also, I wanted to know if it would congeal together as a paste. The throwing action felt good and I did put power in my throw..

Thinking of the satellite images you see as a mapping idea, my work seemed to be taking the look of the that.. while again is kinda fitting.. ... The marks of the sea and land have interesting texture.

As I continued I couldn't help but feel how amateur like the thing looked..... Something isn't working.... Im unsure what as yet....Maybe I'm trying to hard... Maybe it is nothing. I don't really know... But what I do know is when I get immersed in a work the fun, joy and distraction I feel is great. Its not for me about the finish... Its more about the action and actual doing.

So the path it has taken from start to nearly finished.

social conditioning and systemic theory

The mind travels in the cerebral cortex to write a somewhat weird and wonderful picture into how I have came to this point! Gonna be long winded and tedious!! But sometimes you just have to get it out.

hello me

For someone who has feelings of coming to a point in time where the need for more knowledge and understanding is of utmost importance and seems necessity rather than just, - can these theories give me the boost and understanding of why I feel like this.   Like this I mean at the crossroad of where I can keep continuing on the paths I know or venture into the unknown....

Truth is while walking the dog I do actually prefer to wander on the off beaten tracks. Rather than sticking to the paths more followed.. I tend to see the animal tracks and wonder where they lead. Without concern for my own well- being I get an excitement and urge to just follow.......

Maybe for many people, they never realise or question the fact that they have out grown they old views and life. Maybe they fine comfort in the moving forward without the need for answers as to how or why. The moving forward and leaving they loved ones behind in the dark because as a group the same need for nurturing and answers doesn't exist. safety in numbers!

Feeling selfish to not be happy with the things I've achieved. Not because I have to but because I want too/need to. God how lucky am I to have the chance to again move forward.... And yet without anything solid..... only trust in the bigger picture! is that what faith was to them years ago?

This is where I began to question the world around me and for me I entered a world of the unknown and somewhat surreal, mumbo jumbo and very advanced work of psychology, biology,  homeostasis,  psychoanalysis and some more words I cant spell.....

Lets face it I'm not the first person to be out questioning the limits of her herself or her world.... WOMEN and men (thats my new feminist coming out) have for centuries fought for more understanding and the beliefs that something else was out-there for them...

Art history and the bible looking back is full of stories that contradicts the impossible from the possible.  The group of people and families following each other into the unknown trusting in one god/person.

Makes me think !!!!

I once heard of a large, influential Northeastern church that hired a “superstar” young pastor. Not long after he arrived, he asked the church board to install a shower in his pastor’s study because he runs on his lunch hour and he wanted to shower before returning to work.

At substantive financial cost, the board granted his wish and installed the new shower – but it also came with a systemic cost. Expanding his office meant that several of the associate pastor’s offices that bordered his got reduced. For his office to get larger, the other pastors’ offices had to get smaller. And here we see the nuances of “open” and “closed.” While the church board was “very open” to accommodating the new pastor, they were simultaneously too “closed” and blind to anticipate how this would predictably affect their other staff who had faithfully served this church long before the new pastor arrived. Several of the staff resigned not long after this decision. Wouldn’t you?

This metaphor can be the same for family members opening up to the one member who wants to branch out themselves for the good of the group... Like how I feel towards my own family.... Many have said "oh so were not good enough anymore"? For me it didn't come into play but for them the bewildered look of how dare you! gave me a sense of wrong.

Return back to your position

Colour Theory

We all agree that the best way to break certain rules and push the boundaries of art and science forward lies in our knowledge of the basic principles.

Social Conditioning

Freud states "opposition to the herd is as good as separation from it, and is therefore anxiously avoided". Such fear causes the individual members and even leaders of a particular group to go along with the decisions a group based in accordance to its culture. On a micro scale, the individual is conditioned to partake in the social norms of the said group even if they contradict his or her personal moral code.

Systemic Theory

One of the main perspectives of systems theory is viewing an individual or group as its own ecosystem with many moving parts that affect each other.

Principles of systems theory have been applied to the field of psychology to explain the behavioral patterns of groups or individuals...

One of the hardest affirmations of systems theory to understand, embrace and employ is that there are no good guys and no bad guys. Rabbi Friedman once said, “There can be no disease process without a host cell.”

“a window nailed open is as dangerous and useless as one nailed shut.”

So here IS my dilemma thought over family.......Truth is I know the pulling I feel will cancel them out but to live a life less full is hurtful.  I'm gonna look into bible story art where this conflict is depicted.

I do hope it all makes sense! to me it is the beginning of nurturing my already active pursuits and mind.

If you have read is far some comments or ideas are most welcome. thats an order!!

Smear..ladies.. graphic content. Femme fatale

Why bother!                                                                    I'm too busy!

I'm frightened I'm not normal               Will they judge me?

I haven't shaved today!                            Thats gross I'm not getting that!

What would/is your reason for not getting a smear test....Truth is many young females put off getting a smear test for many different reasons.... Statics show that women going for smear tests are at an all time low! While smear test don't detect all types of cervical cancer why risk not going?

What do I know about it? Jade goody

Following the diagnosis of the Big Brother star Jade Goody getting cervical cancer back in 2008 and her subsequent death at the age of just 27, the charity, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust says an extra 400,000 women went for their screening.   However, now the lack of investment and action to improve cervical screening attendance has maybe contributed to the low numbers since the goody effect has worn off....

Scottish Government Awareness - very creative

.... A short, bold film created by NHS Scotland and the Scottish Government to raise awareness of the importance of cervical screening, and to encourage young women to attend for their smear tests I thought was a great advert that makes women think about screening.... This got me questioning why do women think that getting they lady garden out for a two second test is so horrifying when it could save some many lives.

With my other topic - painting to a theme I came to discover than I too don't know what is normal when it comes to my own/others lady bits.  Its a topic I guess we dont talk about or want too....

I find it sad that so many could die because of this and knowing the effect cancer has on people and families, well hell a little thing like going for a swab is the least of your worries. Nearly 3 women a day die of cervical cancer everyday.  I've asked my local doctor's surgery for some more information regarding this. The nurse I spoke to seemed happy to help. I do wonder if nurses go to schools and talk to girls during the sex education talks. Its said to effect females of any age but women between 25 - 40 are more likely to be affected.

💀💔

All women who are registered with a GP are invited for cervical screening:

aged 25 to 49 – every 3 years
aged 50 to 64 – every 5 years
over 65 – only women who haven't been screened since age 50 or those who have recently had abnormal tests

Will creating work that is graphic make people squirm enough to remember to get a smear test... I was thinking of a walk through doorway of a vagina.. Inside a pink lighten room and a wall of photos in black and white of different women vaginas. Maybe neon words and a sculpture .... I think the voice of a doctor talking about a healthy vagina's and what is normal could be playing in the background.... or girls fears about getting a smear.

I could ask female to do a questionnaire for more information about thoughts, worries girls have. The truth is while were all busy, many younger people (men and women) are having panic attacks and fears of the unknown with regards to health. Many feel stressed out daily. I dont want my own children to keep in their fears in and let worries build up inside of them until its too much and they get bogged under. Knowledge is power, and talking and admitting our fears could indeed save lives in other ways.. Mental health, alcohol abuse, etc. Plus bring families together.

Cringe eh!! Talking the talks may leave us a left red faced, we could also laugh at the fact its so cringe.  I guess for women talking about periods and stuff, it to has to happen at some point or another... Maybe this is when talks about testing and being normal downstairs should be spoken about!

Adverts I looked at -

I think for my brief I'm thinking along the lines of a government health awareness campaign that relates to the importance of getting a smear test and a campaign to introduce this talk into school at  a younger level.  I guess things I should think about are
  • age group
  • religious beliefs
  • effect and outcome
  • graphic contend for public audience
  • medium and layout, sizing
  • lighting and effects
  • leaflets or healthcare phone numbers
Things I'd like to have.

A close up image/images of a female vagina.... Photographic and drawings
framed and hanging next to one another.

voice over talking in the background.

For now I'm gonna create filler models and see what I take from them.

Think my angles maybe not correct.. going to enter the world of Google images to correct these
